I am a Chartered Physiotherapist specialised in the area of Women’s Health since 2006 and have experience treating a wide range of musculo-skeletal and pelvic floor conditions in both the female and male population. I treat individuals with Pelvic Girdle Dysfunction, Sacro-iliac joint issues, Neck Pain, Low Back Pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Coccyx Pain, Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Diastasis Recti Abdominis and any Pelvic Floor Dysfunction such as Urinary/Faecal Incontinence, pain after delivery and Dyspareunia.
As an APPI trained PIlates Instructor I teach classes as well as integrating Pilates movements into exercise programs for my clients. I completed a Masters in Western Medical Acupuncture in 2014 and use Dry Needling as an adjunct to other treatment techniques. I have conducted literature reviews on a wide variety of Women’s Health conditions to keep up to date with all the latest research in area of Women’s Health.
I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1997 and have been a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists since. I am registered with Coru. Having worked in many different hospital and clinic settings I have gained experience in treating a wide variety of specialties in the adult and paediatric populations, such as Respiratory, Neurology, Musculoskeletal, Cystic Fibrosis, Paediatrics, Care of the Elderly, Orthopaedics and Women’s Health. As well as working in the acute setting of hospitals I have worked in Private Practice settings, firstly in other practices in the evenings and later in my own practice since 2013.
In 2006 I started my role as Senior Physiotherapist in Women’s Health in the University Hospital Limerick Maternity Hospital (The Regional) and there I met and treated thousands of women who were pregnant or post-natal. Most of my experience has been “on the ground” as I delivered ante-natal and post-natal physiotherapy care on the wards, in clinics, individually and in class settings, but I have attended numerous courses along the way to expand and improve my practice. After spending seven very happy years working as Senior Physiotherapist in the Maternity Hospital I concentrated on my private practice after the birth of my fourth child in 2013.
I believe in good posture, muscle balance, in feeling strong, and in injury-proofing ourselves so we can continue to exercise and feel good for as long as we can! I believe in educating my patients about their condition so they are fully informed about their treatment plan and are motivated to achieve their goals.
