About Me

IMG_3166 MR

I am a Chartered Physiotherapist based in Cratloe, which is in Co Clare, about 7 miles from Limerick city. I have experience in treating a wide variety variety of musculo-skeletal conditions including lower back pain, neck pain, sports injuries and Women’s Health conditions.

Since qualifying as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1997, I have worked in Acute hospitals and Private Practice ; I have rotated through many different physiotherapy specialties such as Musculo-skeletal ( ie Sports injuries, Low Back Pain, Neck Pain, joint injuries etc), Respiratory,  Orthopaedics, Neurology, Paediatrics ( mainly Cystic Fibrosis), and Women’s Health

I developed an interest in muscle imbalance while observing patients’ responses to dysfunction over the years, and trained as a Pilates Instructor with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute in London. I assess and treat injuries, then address the underlying factors and prescribe exercise programmes that aim to prevent recurrence.

Having specialised in Women’s Health and Pilates over the last 12 years through my work as Senior Physiotherapist in the University Maternity Hospital in Limerick and in Private Practice, I have developed my expertise in the area of pelvic floor treatment and rehabilitation of the core muscles to treat and prevent pelvic girdle pain, sports injuries and low back pain. I have years of experience treating post-natal Diastasis Recti Abdominis, Bladder and Bowel issues, Prolapse, Pelvic Girdle Dysfunction ( sometimes also called SPD), Coccyx Pain, and many other Women’s Health conditions (just ask if I haven’t mentioned something you are wondering about!).

I started to practice in Western Medical Acupuncture in 2010 and  finished a Masters in Western Medical Acupuncture at the University of Hertfordshire in 2015. I use acupuncture or Dry Needling,as it called when applied to treatment of Myofascial Trigger points, as an adjunct to manual therapy for most of my treatments.

I believe in good posture, muscle balance, in feeling strong, and in injury-proofing ourselves so we can continue to exercise and feel good for as long as we can! I believe in educating my patients about their condition so they are fully informed about their treatment plan and are motivated to achieve their goals.

I provide Pilates classes and individual treatments for a variety of conditions, most of which are detailed throughout this website. Please give me a shout if you have any queries or feel free to book an appointment online! Muireann

  1. Hi I’m there months pregnant but suffer from back and back pain due to a car accident. Do you have any classes I could attend to help with this.

    • Hi Shirley,

I’m afraid I’m not running pregnancy classes nowadays..are you attending physio for your back pain? Maybe an exercise programme would suit you or contact the bumproom who are running pregnancy classes..I could see you for an individual treatment session and exercise program if that wasn’t suitable or you can contact the physio department in the regional maternity hospital if you’d prefer to go to a public service..any questions just ask!
